10 great reasons to holiday on Warren Farm

10 great reasons to holiday on Warren Farm. It’s been a busy month here at Warren Farm – we’ve been weaning calves away from their mothers, pregnancy testing our cows, bringing our lambs back home after time spent grazing on neighbouring farms, and getting ready for the next wave of lambing in April.

Our lambs won’t be the only new arrivals in the spring. In April, our campsite re-opens, and we’re already busy taking bookings and getting our glamping lodges and pods ready to give a warm and comfortable welcome.

If you’re considering joining us for holiday on Warren Farm, we thought you’d like to know about some of the amazing things you can do while you’re here. Of course, there’s always lots to see on the farm itself, including lambs, pigs, goats and calves – but there’s also plenty to enjoy on foot, by bike or by car in the surrounding area. Here’s our top 10.

1. Walk the Cheddar Gorge

Warren Farm campsite overlooks the Cheddar Gorge, a spectacular limestone gorge which is one of the UK’s top landmarks. The walk from Warren Farm down into the gorge is almost entirely on a public footpath, passing through a gorgeous landscape of craggy rocks and greenery. Once you’re in the gorge you can explore shops and cafes, buy Cheddar cheese aged in local caves, and visit the stunning Gough’s cave – the largest show cave in Cheddar.

An area of low-lying plains and wetland, the Somerset Levels are full of traces of history – including ancient paths and trackways. One of these is the Neolithic Sweet Track at Shapwick, which was a log trackway crossing 2km of reedy swampland, built as humans started to settle and farm in the area. You can see a replica of it at the Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve, which is about half an hour’s drive from Warren Farm.

We have a deal with Cheddar Bikes in Cheddar enabling our guests to hire bikes at a discount – and there’s nothing better to do with your wheels than cycle the Strawberry Line. This 30-mile cycleway runs all the way from Clevedon to Shepton Mallet, following the path of an old railway. It gets its name from all the strawberry growers on the south facing side of the Mendip hills; the trains used to carry the strawberries to market.
